We are seeking a Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Human Microbiome to join School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Health.

Microorganisms have a profound influence on biological, environmental, and industrial processes, but understanding the complex dynamics of microbial communities and how to manipulate them to our advantage remains a challenge. CMR Director Professor Gene Tyson has recently been awarded a prestigious ARC Laureate Fellowship that aims to overcome current technological limitations and transform microbial ecology from a descriptive to a predictive science. This will be achieved using as a model the most intensively studied ecosystem on the planet: the human gut microbiome. The Fellowship program will deliver new tools for integrated meta-omic analysis, a biobank featuring thousands of novel microorganisms from the human gut, and machine learning models to predict how entire microbial communities will respond to changes in their environment. The successful candidate will join this exciting project to drive new methods in i) microbial protein annotation and ii) characterising how microbial communities respond to environmental changes (e.g., diet or therapeutics). The role is open to a broad range of applicants with experience in human microbiome research, including in fields such as microbiology, multi-omics analysis, biochemistry, synthetic biology and immunology.

The team is made up of researchers with diverse expertise within microbial ecology and genomics, providing an intellectually robust and collaborative environment. The Centre is located within the Translational Research Institute (TRI), a unique multidisciplinary facility located at the Princess Alexandra hospital with a strong focus on translational research. This positions the team amongst top researchers and clinicians from diverse disciplines such as genomics, bioinformatics, immunology, oncology and gastroenterology, and provides the team with access to state-of-the-art core facilities. The Centre also has a dedicated PC2-certified laboratory fully equipped for molecular biology that includes an in-house white light laser confocal microscope (Leica), a PromethION (Oxford Nanopore Technologies) and access to a NovaSeq 6000 (Illumina). The Centre has a BD FACSAria Fusion fluorescence activated cell sorter with small particle detection and liquid handling robots for single cell genomic and culturing work, and maintains anaerobic culture and quarantine facilities. The operation of these facilities is supported by professional staff for microscopy, flow cytometry, sequencing and bioinformatics..

What you need to succeed

1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., microbial ecology, synthetic biology, immunology, bioinformatics).
2. Four years postdoctoral experience in a relevant field.

Engineer, Software (Mobile)

• Term: Ongoing, full-time basis
• Remuneration: $120,443 to $131,749 pa (HEW7) (inclusive of $101,775 to $111,330 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Engineer, Software (Mobile) to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Engineer Software (Mobile) contributes to supporting the creation of new and/or improvement of existing applications, interfaces, and content that will support a collaborative, connected and engaging digital experience. The role will demonstrate competence in developing on various mobile platforms (iOS, Android and Flutter) and be able to develop using user-centred design approaches, with a focus on quality to ensure compliance with appropriate quality frameworks and industry standards. The role is part of a team that works across various digital platforms. The work undertaken by this team is critical to driving business efficiencies and ensuring that day-to-day IT client computing runs smoothly. The appointee may be required to be contactable and/or work outside of standard business hours on occasion. These instances will be treated in accordance with the relevant provisions in the Enterprise Agreement for Professional Staff.

What you need to succeed

1. Education, training and/or experience equivalent to completion of a degree with at least four (4) years of subsequent relevant experience in user experience design within an information technology area.
2. Demonstrated DevOps experience in contributing as a technical expert within a team and implementing improvement strategies that support effective responses to client needs to achieve organisational goals.
3. Proven analytical, problem-solving skills & software engineering skills with demonstrated experience in designing, developing, deploying and implementing solutions using various contemporary mobile technologies.
4. Demonstrated ability to maintain productive and collaborative working relationships, including the ability to develop and present concepts to negotiate with and influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
5. Proven planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing own and workflow priorities and working across a diverse number of initiatives within tight and competing timelines.
6. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in developing, automating, and testing corporate mobile applications and the use of industry standard testing platforms (eg. Firebase, Bitrise and Bitbucket), with a focus on improving user experience.
