  • Remuneration: $158,080 to $165,606 pa (HEW9) (inclusive of $133,579 to $139,939 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)
  • Location: Kelvin Grove (hybrid option available)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Principal Engineer, Cloud to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Principal Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, build and management of cloud infrastructure platforms for QUT. This role will develop the frameworks, guardrails, and automated remediation of non-compliant workloads, and to assist with education on cloud best-practice design. The position will lead the development of self-service cloud infrastructure and the democratisation of cloud infrastructure consumption, within the well-defined guardrails, leveraging consistent and well-orchestrated deployment patterns. This role will directly interface with other key technical stakeholders across Digital Technology, including data centre operations, platform engineering, integration, and network teams. In addition, the Principal Engineer, Cloud will collaborate with cross-functional and cross-organisation teams to develop solutions and strategies for QUT's Software Defined Data Centre.

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of postgraduate qualification in Computer Science, Engineering and extensive relevant experience.
  2. Certifications in AWS and/or Cloud platforms.
  3. Extensive proven experience in setup, deployment and management of systems provisioning and configuration management frameworks such as Puppet, Chef, Docker, Terraform, CloudFormation.
  4. Proven experience with Linux or Windows command line, shell scripting, automation of common tasks, and configuration of system monitoring tools.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of automation scripts for provisioning and auto-scaling of infrastructure
  6. Knowledge of Integrated monitoring tools: Datadog, New-relic, Splunk etc.
  7. Proven expert-level understanding of Git and software revision control and code deployment best practices; proven ability to design and develop automated code deployment scripts.
  8. Proven experience leading a DevOps culture of automation, self-service, and engineering best practice.
