As the Project Accountant, you will play a key role in the financial performance of the Physical Infrastructure Program (Physical Program). This includes tracking forecasts against actuals, managing project spending, identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvement, and providing detailed financial insights. You will work closely with the business operations team, portfolio management office, project managers, the Finance Business Solutions teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure financial integrity and compliance.

The primary role is to ensure that project budgets are adhered to, monitor financial performance, and provide accurate and timely financial information to project managers and other stakeholders. The role delivers sound financial analysis and provides support and advice to leaders to inform periodic financial planning, budgeting, costing, forecasting, monitoring, and reporting. The role’s involvement with CapEx and OpEx management is essential to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective financial control of projects.

 Managing project finances, enabling project managers to make informed decisions and ensuring the Physical Program maintains financial control is an essential part of this role. As a member of the finance team, you will also be required to address complex financial challenges, enhance team performance, and build capabilities aligned with client needs and service delivery goals. What you need to succeed

1. Education, training and/or experience equivalent to postgraduate qualifications, or progress towards postgraduate qualifications with extensive relevant experience. Understanding of academic research cycles, funding landscapes, and centre operations is advantageous.
2. Demonstrated ability to build a collaborative team environment that supports research excellence and operational effectiveness to varied groups across an organisation, including staff, students and external partners.
3. Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage and influence researchers, collaborators, and institutional partners without direct authority. Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with audiences ranging from HDR students to senior leadership.
4. High-level written and oral communication skills to deliver clear and concise reports, plans, and complex correspondence using a variety of digital technologies. Ability to translate complex scientific concepts for diverse audiences, including researchers, administrators, industry partners, and funding bodies. Experience in science communication using social media and websites is desirable.
5. Proven ability to analyse and evaluate organisational systems at a strategic level, and to develop creative, effective workflows and governance structures that enhance operational efficiency and long-term capability.
6. Demonstrated experience in contract management, financial management and reporting, and identifying funding opportunities. Experience in managing complex research projects with multiple partners or proven ability to support researchers in developing competitive proposals is advantageous.
7. High-level ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines without compromising quality. Experience adapting to dynamic circumstances and maintaining productivity in fast-paced research and operational environments.

The Senior Engineer, Platforms position is responsible for the hands-on development of the scaffolding services and automation required to transition QUT to a modern application architecture and remove hand-built monolithic application platforms. The role works within a platform engineering team, and closely alongside portfolio, cloud engineering and security teams to automate infrastructure processes and assist in developing managed application environments that enable functional portfolio teams to focus on features instead of the development of foundational services.
