We are seeking a Senior Engineer, Operations to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Senior Engineer, Operations is a member of the Corporate Systems team who takes responsibility for maintaining and improving a complex landscape of business-critical solutions, providing operational support to our customers and helping to implement QUT's Digital Strategy which includes a multi-year project to implement a new Enterprise Resource Planning system. This role will work in partnership with team members, clients and other IT professionals, with a focus on maintaining a range of solutions related to the Corporate Applications environment, encompassing Finance and HR Systems. The Apprentice Mechanical Engineer (Machining) role combines structured off the job training with practical, on the job experience. Under the supervision of qualified tradespersons, the apprentice will develop skills across all aspects of machining within a workshop environment. This position is a formal training role and operates in accordance with the requirements and obligations outlined in the relevant Training Contract. Through the apprenticeship program, the apprentice will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands on experience in the manufacture, repair, and replacement of engineering components used across a range of machinery and plant equipment. The role also includes opportunities to contribute to the design and fabrication of modifications, as well as developing competencies in the maintenance and servicing of pilot plant infrastructure.

The Research Engineering Facility (REF) provides cutting-edge research engineering and technology services including experimental hardware design, systems integration, software engineering and proof-of-concept validation and testing. Capabilities span drones and aviation, robotics and autonomous systems, energy systems, design and systems integration, structural engineering and testing, and data acquisition, processing and management. REF’s Banyo Pilot Plant Precinct (BPPP) hosts scaled-up research in civil engineering, industrial biotechnology, and energy storage applications, testing and validation. The precinct comprises three warehouse buildings, with specialized laboratories, workshops and enabling engineering infrastructure. It is suited to enable pilot scale research activities across a wide range of research domains, with projects conducted on an activity-based schedule allowing for flexibility and redeployment of space as research priorities evolve and mature.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Research Fellow to join School of Computer Science, Faculty of Science.

An exciting opportunity is available for a qualified and experienced candidate to join the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child in the Connected Child program with a focus on how children may develop digital media literacies in formal and informal settings, and children’s experiences of new technologies such as AI and gaming platforms. Considering the role industry and policy development plays in mediating these experiences is an important aspect of this opportunity. The Research Fellow will engage in research that sustains their outstanding research leadership and national and/or international reputation in the research area. As research focused academic, the incumbent is expected to work independently and as part of a research team, and demonstrate high level intellectual leadership, capacity to facilitate the development of other researchers, and collaboration toward or leadership of funding initiatives.

What you need to succeed

1. Completion of a PhD or other recognised doctoral qualification (or a recent submission) in a discipline aligned to the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child (see https://digitalchild.org.au/ for further details) with experience in a field relevant to videogames, other digital technologies, human–computer interaction, or psychology.
2. High-level written communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and constructively within a team environment and with a diverse range of stakeholders, including research colleagues, industry partners, and external collaborators. This includes the proven capacity to effectively communicate research outcomes to both academic and broader audiences, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals, written reports, seminar and conference presentations, and engagement in public events and related activities.
3. Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct data analysis (quantitative and/or qualitative) and communicate results.
4. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent, original research, including designing, implementing, delivering, and reporting project outcomes within agreed timeframes and budgets. 
5. Proven organisational skills, including the ability to manage confidential research records and data, ethical protocols and processes and successfully manage workload to meet deadlines and within budget.
