Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer of Architecture, School of Architecture and Built Environment to join School of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering.

The position requires a highly motivated academic with a passion for innovative teaching and delivering research outcomes that substantially address local and global issues of significance, such as addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and responding to climate change. You will bring demonstrated experience in the successful implementation of real-world education, such as authentic assessment, work integrated learning, and digital transformation of course content as well as demonstrated excellence in learning and teaching practice, including critical reflection of your own pedagogical approach and outcomes and adapting learning and teaching to respond appropriately to generative AI. As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Architecture you will have a strong track record in research and be actively working toward future collaborations, funded projects, high-quality research outputs, and higher degree research student training.

The School of Architecture and Built Environment delivers programs, knowledge and technical skills focused on designing, planning, constructing, and managing the built environment sustainably. We also research and teach tools and technologies such as construction and architectural robotics, environmental simulation and assessment, and big data analytics to inform projects and decision making..

What you need to succeed

Level B

  1. Completion of a PhD in Architecture or equivalent accreditation or standing. Expertise in teaching and research in one or more of the following areas relevant to architecture will be highly regarded: sustainable materials, regenerative design approaches, embodied carbon assessment, computational and digital technologies, an understanding of Indigenous perspectives in learning and teaching.
  2. Experience in architectural practice and professional registration as an architect or the capacity to be registered.
  3. Experience or the potential to initiate, develop, lead and maintain a successful research program in architectural research as demonstrated by high-quality publications, success in or the potential to attract research funding, effective engagement in research projects, and successful supervision of student research projects.
  4. Demonstrated track record in high-quality teaching within the architecture discipline including an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning, and a demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented architecture discipline.
  5. Experience in or the potential to initiate and build partnerships with industry, professional associations, government or community groups in research and teaching.
  6. Demonstrated ability to embrace and participate in change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness, cooperate and collaborate well with others in a team with diverse backgrounds and expertise including cross-disciplinary collaborations. Evidence of cultural awareness and respectful engagement with First Nations colleagues and communities, including the capacity to respond constructively to feedback and support the integration of guidance into teaching, research, or professional practice.

Level C


  1. Completion of a PhD in Architecture or equivalent accreditation or standing. Demonstrated expertise and track record in teaching and research in one or more of the following areas relevant to architecture will be highly regarded: sustainable materials, regenerative design approaches, embodied carbon assessment, computational and digital technologies, an understanding of Indigenous perspectives in learning and teaching.
  2. Demonstrated expertise in architectural practice, including professional registration as an architect.
  3. Effective leadership in the successful development and delivery of research projects. Demonstrated experience initiating, developing, leading and maintaining excellence in research demonstrated by high-quality publications, success in attracting competitive external research funding, effective leadership and engagement in research projects, and successful supervision of student research projects including PhD completions.
  4. Demonstrated track record in high-quality, real-world teaching (including unit / course coordination) including an ability to develop scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning and a demonstrated capacity to teach classes in the professionally oriented architecture discipline.
  5. Demonstrated networks and experience in leading the development of impactful partnerships with industry, professional associations, government or community groups in research and teaching.
  6. Demonstrated capacity to lead and embrace change to improve personal and organisational effectiveness, cooperate and collaborate well with others in a team with diverse backgrounds and expertise including cross-disciplinary collaborations. Experience in engaging with First Nations colleagues and communities in ways that value Indigenous authority, including responding constructively to feedback and embedding that guidance into teaching, research, or leadership practice will be regarded favourably.
