Job Description

About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a teaching-focused Lecturer in Software Engineering and/or Cyber Security to create meaningful impact on the next generation of technology professionals. Working in a collaborative and inclusive academic environment, you will lead engaging, studio-based learning experiences, coordinate contemporary courses and help students develop the practical and human-centred capabilities needed to navigate a rapidly changing discipline, including the opportunities and challenges presented by AI assistants.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching: Develop and deliver engaging undergraduate and postgraduate courses in software engineering and/or cyber security, including studio-based learning, course coordination, assessment, academic counselling and the application of relevant University teaching rules.
  • Curriculum and educational innovation: Collaborate with program advisers, colleagues and stakeholders to design contemporary programs, learning materials and assessment practices that respond to developments in technology, industry and student learning.
  • Scholarship of teaching and learning: Build an emerging profile in teaching impact and the scholarship of teaching and learning by exploring, evaluating and communicating evidence-based pedagogical practices and contributing to relevant projects and funding applications.
  • Citizenship and service: Demonstrate UQ values through collaboration, participation in priority activities and committees, and the development of productive relationships with industry, government, professional bodies and the wider community.

This is a teaching focused position. Further information can be found by viewing UQ’s Criteria for Academic Performance.

About You

You will bring disciplinary expertise and a purposeful, student-centred approach to teaching. You will also demonstrate:

  • A PhD or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related area.
  • Expert knowledge gained through academic or industry practice in software engineering, cyber security or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching software engineering and/or cyber security at tertiary level, with the ability to contribute to broader computer science and information technology curricula.
  • An emerging profile of teaching impact and/or education research, including involvement in curriculum development at course or program level.
  • Experience designing engaging learning materials, assessment tasks and educational experiences, including studio-based learning or other innovative teaching approaches.
  • Participation in projects that have improved curriculum, pedagogy or assessment practices, with experience contributing to funding applications considered desirable.
  • Evidence of involvement in the supervision of Honours or Higher Degree by Research students, where appropriate, in education or discipline-based research.
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal and consultative skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students and external stakeholders.

We particularly welcome applications from women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and others who may be underrepresented in this discipline.
