Job Description
Your future is Energy Queensland:
Energy Queensland, and our operational brands: Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Retail and Yurika, are at the frontline of progress in the energy industry. As Australia’s largest government-owned electricity organisation, we serve people and communities across the state and beyond. Here, you’ll help us deliver reliable energy solutions for our two million customers.
Join us as our next Domain Architect – Security and amplify your impact. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based at our Newstead Office in Brisbane.
Your opportunity:
As a Domain Architect – Security, you’re key to shaping and securing EQL’s digital landscape. Sitting within the Domain Architecture team, you define and maintain, in close collaboration with the Cyber and Information Security Group, our cyber security architecture – ensuring our systems, data, and digital assets remain protected in an increasingly complex threat environment.
Working across a dynamic ICT and OT environment, you assist the Cybersecurity function to identify and prioritise our cyber security needs and lead the development and implementation of reference architectures and patterns. You guide architectural decisions through an expert security lens, support the secure design of enterprise and solution architectures, and collaborate closely with architects, security specialists, delivery teams, and senior leaders to embed security across everything we do.
Here’s what your day-to-day looks like:
- Developing security reference architectures and patterns to guide technology adoption, solution design, and implementation.
- Participating in Cybersecurity led risk assessments and threat modelling to proactively identify and address security threats.
- Working alongside architecture, cyber security risk and operations professionals to provide expert security guidance and leadership across solution designs, ensuring architecture solutions are practical, scalable, aligned with business needs and commensurate with EQL’s cyber security risk appetite, policies, and standards.
- Driving innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and ensuring their secure adoption – particularly in areas like cloud and AI – to support EQL’s digital strategy.
This is an ideal opportunity to step into an architectural leadership role and shape how security underpins our systems, strategy, and services – both today and into the future.
Your remuneration starts from $184k per annum + 14.75% super for a 9-day fortnight, and from $208k per annum + 14.75% super for a 10-day fortnight.
What’s on offer?

- Leave for real life: Access to additional health and wellbeing, culture and diversity leave options.
- Grow as you go: Opportunities to develop professionally through training, leadership programs and full access to LinkedIn Learning.
What you’ll bring:
Relevant tertiary qualifications and certifications including:

- Desirable – Formal architecture certifications (e.g. TOGAF or those from major cloud/technology providers).
- Desirable – Cyber Security certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, Microsoft Cybersecurity Architect, AWS Certified Security – Specialty).
As for your technical expertise, we need you to have:
- At least 5 years' hands-on experience as a security architect or security specialist, delivering end-to-end digital solutions in large, complex environments.
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks including NIST CSF, ISM, and CIS.
- A sound understanding of end-to-end security controls, risk management practices, and modern security principles, techniques, and protocols.
- Strong technical skills in security technologies, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, encryption, and access control.
- Strong knowledge of security tools such as SIEM, anti-malware, endpoint protection, URL and application control, and email filtering.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure or AWS Cloud security architectures and DevSecOps practices and tools.
To complement your technical expertise, you also bring:
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to facilitate discussions, negotiate effectively, and build productive relationships across the business.
- A talent for translating complex security concepts into clear, actionable solutions.
- Confidence in presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A pragmatic and adaptable approach, balancing ideal solutions with business priorities.
- A commitment to continuous learning, keeping pace with emerging cyber threats and technologies.
