About the role: 

Unitywater’s Vacation Program is a 12-week placement, offered over the summer holiday period (Nov 2026 – Feb 2027). Work four days per week while building your skills, meeting new people, learning from experienced professionals, and discovering where a career in the water industry could take you.

Opportunity 1: Network Control Room

·        Work in the Control Room within our Network Operations team, this role will contribute to the creation of work permits and water/sewer network isolation plans to enable safe and efficient works on the network while minimising impact to customers.

·        Open to: Civil Engineering students

·        Location: Maroochydore

Opportunity 2: Asset, Knowledge and Performance

·        Develop a broad understanding of the water industry through practical experience in water quality, infrastructure standards, asset performance analysis, and asset renewal planning.

·        Open to: Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering students.

·        Location: Maroochydore OR Mango Hill

Opportunity 3: Network Modelling

·        Join our Network Planning team and develop practical network modelling skills while responding to network enquiries, analysing GIS data, and supporting hydraulic investigations that inform planning and operational decisions.

·        Open to Mechanical, Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering students.

·        Location: Maroochydore

Opportunity 4: Wamuran Irrigation Scheme

·        Gain experience working alongside Process Engineers and Operators at our award-winning Wamuran Irrigation Scheme. Contribute to filter media evaluation projects focused on improving total organic carbon (TOC) removal and enhancing free chlorine residual performance.

·        Open to Chemical Engineering students.

·        Location: Morayfield

Opportunity 5: Operations Technology

·        Work with our Operational Technologies team on a Human-Machine Interface (HMI) Product Selection project. The HMI is used to monitor and control critical water and wastewater infrastructure, including treatment plants, pump stations and reservoirs.

·        Open to Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering, or Computer Science students

·        Location: Morayfield

Opportunity 6: Technology and Digital Solutions

·        Support the improvement of vendor and contract management practices, including contract reviews, ServiceNow data management, technical obligations auditing, and the development of performance, risk, compliance, and governance reporting.

·        Gain exposure to IT contract management and governance, working with managed services, SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, and software licensing agreements while contributing to process improvement initiatives, workflows, and governance frameworks.

·        Location: Mango Hill

Opportunity 7: Chemistry Laboratory

·        Gain hands-on experience in a NATA/ISO 17025 accredited analytical chemistry laboratory, working alongside experienced analytical chemists, quality control chemists, and laboratory technicians.

·        Develop practical skills using a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and gain insight into laboratory quality systems and analytical testing processes used across the industry.

·        Open to students studying Science, preferably with major in Chemistry, Microbiology or Environmental Science

·        Location: Morayfield

Opportunity 8: Approvals and Environmental Management

·        Join our Approvals and Regulatory team and gain hands-on experience supporting projects related to environmental management, regulatory approvals and enhancement of systems and processes.

·        Open to students studying Science, Law, or Political Science

·        Location: Maroochydore

Opportunity 9: Learning and Development

·        Gain hands-on experience within our Learning and Development team, supporting face-to-face training, learning management system (LMS) administration, learner requests, and corporate induction programs.

·        Work with subject matter experts to develop learning solutions and gain exposure to instructional design principles, training development, and learning program delivery.

·        Open to students studying Business, Human Resources, Organisational Design, Education.

·        Location: Maroochydore

Opportunity 10: Fleet and Logistics

·        Contribute to the development of a Standardised Fleet Catalogue by analysing fleet data, researching vehicle specifications and market trends, and helping to establish consistent procurement standards across the organisation.

·        Gain experience in fleet planning and asset management by supporting whole-of-life cost analysis, vehicle replacement planning, stakeholder engagement, and fleet optimisation initiatives.

·        Open to students studying Business
