About the Role

The Digital and Information Services (DIS) branch delivers agile and transformative information and technology, enabling council to be a leader in providing innovative and sustainable services to its communities.

The Enterprise Architecture Team leads the design and implementation of Council’s innovative strategies, ensuring alignment with organisational needs while actively researching industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving standards.

The Solutions Architect will proactively lead / support Solution Architecture activities to design, describe, and manage technical solutions to align with business goals and requirements, effectively bridging the gap between business needs and technical implementation.

Primary responsibilities of this role:

  • Provide Strategic and Architectural Guidance: Deliver solution architecture and strategic direction guidance for projects, ensuring close collaboration with other teams throughout all phases of new solution implementations and modifications to existing systems.
  • Align Business and Technology Objectives: Capture and apply key enterprise architecture concepts, including business goals, outcomes, capabilities, value streams, and processes, emphasising their critical role in aligning IT solutions with business strategy and outcomes.
  • Ensure Compliance and Architectural Alignment: Develop and enforce compliance with the DIS branch guidelines, ensuring all solutions align with the organisation’s enterprise architecture. Define and promote architectural principles, standards, guidelines, and reusable solution patterns to support future-state architecture goals.
  • Support Transition Planning and Road mapping: Contribute to the development of transition states and capability roadmaps for solution acquisitions, implementations, and upgrades, ensuring alignment with the enterprise’s strategic objectives.
  • Create Strategic Artefacts: Produce architectural artefacts that support the management of SCC’s future-state solution portfolio, enabling informed business decision-making and driving desired outcomes.

Desirable Experience: Proficiency in business modelling and integration, including Business Capability Modelling, BPMN, Business Model Canvas, workflow modelling, enterprise application integration, and a strong appreciation for user experience (UX).

This position is based at the newly established Sunshine Coast City Hall, located in the heart of the vibrant Maroochydore CBD. This state-of-the-art, environmentally sustainable building has been purposefully designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and a modern workplace experience.

About you

As a Solutions Architect, you bring a blend of formal qualifications—such as a degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or a related discipline—and/or substantial experience in solution architecture, systems analysis, and solution design, ideally within a large, complex organisation or government setting with a broad range of experiences across multiple environments working across multiple teams in a collegial fashion.

You are a strategic thinker with:

  • Strong problem-solving and research skills, enabling you to tackle complex challenges and develop innovative, client-focused solutions that align with business needs.
  • Business and communication expertise, with a solid understanding of operations and strategy, and the ability to produce high-quality reports, presentations, and planning documents.
  • Leadership and organisational strengths, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, influence stakeholders, and build effective relationships through consultation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to gather information from a wide variety of sources including documentation and informal discussion to distil the current environment and its dependencies.
