We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer – Patching Compliance & Reporting to join our Information Technology Team on a permanent, full-time basis. role can be based in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane.

This role oversees patch management, governance, and compliance with industry best practices and regulations. It ensures APA IT/OT systems follow an up-to-date patching regime, addressing security vulnerabilities per APA standards. Additionally, it involves analysing and improving patching practices, reporting compliance, and collaborating with stakeholders for effective risk management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patching & Compliance Management: Provide Level 2 support for APA’s patching systems, oversee patching activities in line with vulnerability management standards, and ensure compliance through effective reporting and risk assessment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with system SMEs, owners, and business units to design, implement, and remediate security controls, manage vulnerability risks, and refine patching processes to align with industry best practices.
  • Security & Vulnerability Management: Assist in developing, refining, and governing security controls, application whitelisting, desktop security measures, and vulnerability identification tools while ensuring compliance with security standards.
  • Vendor & Partner Collaboration: Work with vendors to resolve patching-related incidents, support outsourced partners in hardware patching execution, and engage security teams for vulnerability assessments and remediation strategies.
  • Operational Reporting & Automation: Monitor and report patching compliance, identify remediation actions, automate manual processes, maintain ITSM calendars, and mentor junior team members to enhance operational efficiency.

Your background

  • Qualifications & Experience: A BSc in Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or related fields, OR equivalent hands-on experience in systems administration, patch management, or vulnerability management within a complex IT environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of Microsoft technologies (SCCM, MCP, MCSE, MCSA, MCTS), Citrix, Ivanti, Intune, Tenable, Windows, VMware, and Cloud platforms (Azure & AWS).
  • Security & Compliance: Knowledge of security frameworks such as PSPF, ISO27001, ISO27002, and familiarity with SCADA systems and IT governance best practices.
  • Stakeholder & Communication Skills: Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, work autonomously, prioritise tasks in integrated, technical environments, and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills. Confidence in having tough conversations and the ability to challenge the status quo to drive continuous improvement.
  • Operational Excellence: Strong commitment to ITIL processes (ideally ITIL V4 accredited), SLA management, conflict resolution, resilience under pressure, and a mindset for continuous improvement and HS&E best practices.
