Job Description

About us

aXcelerate is a leading SaaS provider, with our Student and Learning Management System powering millions of learners’ course and competency records nationwide. As an industry leader, we’re on an exciting growth journey, transforming the way training providers and employers manage and support their learners.

Recognised as a Great Place to Work for two years running, we have a culture where people feel valued and supported to thrive. With ambitious growth plans and countless opportunities to develop your career, there’s never been a better time to join our team and help us shape the future of education technology.

As a Senior Cloud Engineer (Platform) at aXcelerate, you’ll play a key role in shaping and maintaining the systems that power learning across Australia. Your impact will be felt in every improvement to security, automation, and observability — and you’ll be doing it as part of a supportive, inclusive, and values-driven team.

Whether you’re Brisbane-based and prefer hybrid work, or located elsewhere in Australia and looking for a remote opportunity — we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • 🛡️ Strengthen the security and reliability of our AWS cloud infrastructure and Linux environments.
  • ⌨️ Define infrastructure-as-code best practices using tools like Terraform, Helm, and CDK.
  • 🤖 Automate routine maintenance and system administration tasks using tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet – so we can focus on meaningful, high-impact work.
  • 📡 Design and maintain observability solutions using AWS-native tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, CloudTrail) and trusted third-party platforms (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, Logz IO, Datadog, New Relic, OpenTelemetry)
  • 📊 Create intuitive dashboards and meaningful alerts to empower data-informed decisions and real-time insight.
  • 🚨 Implement proactive alerting and anomaly detection, ensuring issues are identified early and addressed smoothly.
  • 📂 Build inclusive, accessible logging and tracing systems, helping teams troubleshoot effectively and collaboratively.
  • 🔍 Lead root cause analysis and develop automated, sustainable responses to recurring issues.
  • 🤝 Work cross-functionally with diverse teams to identify performance challenges and co-design scalable, human-friendly solutions.
  • 🎯 Define and uphold service standards by monitoring SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs – and using insights to keep improving.
  • 🧰 Support secure server patching and Linux system administration, helping to keep our environment safe and modern.

You’ll bring:

  • 2–4 years of experience in cloud engineering on AWS, especially around monitoring and infrastructure visibility.
  • Confidence with observability tools like CloudWatch, X-Ray, CloudTrail, and third-party platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or New Relic.
  • Solid skills in scripting (e.g., Python, Bash) and using automation tools like Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
  • Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK, Pulumi, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with Linux server administration and patching.
  • Familiarity with defining and monitoring SLIs/SLOs.
  • Strong communication skills – you can explain complex things clearly and collaborate across teams.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new systems and technologies.
  • Prior work in a zero-downtime, high-scale production environment.
  • Background in Platform and DevOps teams.

What we offer:

  • A central location, close to public transport, cafes and shops, with free on-site parking available.
  • A vibrant, supportive and team-oriented culture, with regular team activities and social events.
  • Opportunities for flexible and hybrid working – work remotely or from our Brisbane-based office.
  • A focus on professional development and learning, with access to our LMS, external and internal training opportunities and your own personal annual PD budget
  • Access for you and your family to an Employee Assistance Program and resources.
  • Cashback offers and discounts on popular brands through our Employment Hero app.
  • Gym discount and reduced price Pilates classes.
  • Opportunities for career development with well defined career pathways across the business.
  • Proud members of Women in Technology with access to networking events, professional development opportunities and resources.

How to apply

Please submit an up-to-date resume which outlines your suitability for the role.

We’re looking for individuals who resonate with our values – H.E.A.R.T.: Honesty, Empathy, Acceptance, Respect, and Trust, whilst also bringing a unique perspective to their work.
