About the role

We are seeking motivated IT Mainframe Application Developers (APS 4) to join our team.

As an IT Mainframe Application Developer, you will implement the design, build, testing and maintenance of various IT applications.

You will work in a scrum team and you’ll also develop and support key IT services processes, including release, change, configuration, incident and problem management.

Your duties

·        Collaborate with business partners to deliver services using an agile approach

·        Supports business improvements and change initiatives

·        Analyses and presents information suitable for the target audience

Skills and experience

·        Has knowledge or experience of Mainframe tools and technologies

·        Effective communication skills to provide technical and professional advice across various media channels

·        Is flexible, self-motivated and a team player

·        Has knowledge or skills in one or more of the following: COBOL, JCL, ISPF, DB2, DB2 tools/utilities, SQL, CICS, SCLM, and Mainframe Debugger

Experience in z/OS, Micro Focus Enterprise Developer, Git code management, and test automation tools are desirable but not essential.

·        Researches tools and methods to enhance IT platforms capabilities

·        Sound understanding of the Agile development framework

·        Effective communication skills to provide technical and professional advice across various media channels

·        Is flexible and adaptable to meet immediate and future challenges

·        Has experience in building, modifying and testing COBOL modules in an ISPF environment, and knowledge or experience in CICS, JCL and DB2

Experience in DB2 tools/utilities, SQL, SCLM, Mainframe Debugger, z/OS, Micro Focus Enterprise Developer, Git code management, and test automation tools are desirable but not essential.

·        Leads effectively by mentoring and coaching to build team capability

·        Has knowledge and practical experience in building, modifying and testing COBOL modules in an ISPF environment, and knowledge or experience in CICS, JCL and DB2

About you

You will have experience in:

Technical Delivery & Engineering Excellence

• Lead the design, development, and deployment of secure, scalable software solutions.
• Maintain and enhance production-grade codebases with a focus on performance, reliability, and continuous improvement informed by real-world metrics.

Operational Leadership & Team Enablement

• Oversee sprint planning and execution across multiple workstreams, ensuring continuity of delivery and proactive management of technical debt, refactoring, and upgrades.
• Lead and mentor a small team of developers, fostering autonomy, sharing knowledge, and maintaining high technical standards through hands-on collaboration and clear documentation.

Skills & Experience

• 10+ years in software development with proficiency in.NET and .NET Core, C#, PowerShell, JavaScript, and SQL.
• Expertise in secure-by-design coding practices, software architecture, solution design, and engineering best practices.
• Strong understanding of SDLC principles, agile methodologies, microservices architecture, and DevOps practices.
• Proficiency in RESTful API development, OAuth flows, and cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS.
• Extensive experience integrating systems across hybrid environments, including Azure, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and on-premises enterprise platforms. 

Beneficial (but not necessary) experience might include:

• Knowledge of Elastic Search
• Knowledge of data platforms, like Fabric or DataBricks .
