About QCIF DASS

The QCIF Data and Software Solutions team provides expert data and software development support to researchers from universities, government, and industry through access to on-demand, skilled personnel, with expertise in software engineering, data management, data services, and applied high-performance computing.

The team brings specialised knowledge and expertise in working with sensitive data, having designed and built KeyPoint, a remote analysis environment for sensitive data, which the team currently operates. As a Trusted Research Environment, KeyPoint enables robust governance, management, and sharing of sensitive research data with approved researchers in a scalable, highly secure environment.

Duties  

• Show innovation and technical leadership in all aspects of systems planning, architecture, deployment, development, support, performance engineering, and administration
• Provide high-level guidance, architectural review, knowledge and engineering experience, encouraging, leading and facilitating architectural robustness, dialogue, and design
• Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities to improve systems or processes, develop new services or facilities to improve research outcomes for customers and the overall strategic mission of QCIF
• Advanced project management functions for large deployments, capital works, infrastructure upgrades and migrations, where required
• Seek out, research, and implement sector leading approaches to problems, providing leadership approaches to systems design and new initiatives
• Act as a subject matter expert on medium to high-level committees for implementation, procurement, and strategic initiatives
• Demonstrate advanced judgement and systems-thinking approaches, lateral thinking, and sector leading problem-solving abilities in all aspects of the role
• Be available during critical incidents or other emergencies to assist with resolution and act as a point of communication and liaison to keep stakeholders aware of progress during incidents
• Participate in, manage, and assess in the resolution of technical problems reported by clients and team members via the service desk or other escalation paths
• Undertake other work as directed by QCIF, consistent with the skills and knowledge required of the position  
• Plan, deploy, implement, and continually review security posture, capability and implementation to ensure applications and platforms adhere to best practice and are in line with Information Security Policy and Guidelines
• Deployment, configuration, maintenance, and administration of several Windows environments (e.g. Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Domain Controllers, File Servers, SQL Server, VPN, remote desktop and application software)
• Deployment, configuration, maintenance, and administration of Linux environments
• Documentation of procedures, process, systems, platforms in consolidated and unified platforms for organisational knowledge repositories
• High level reporting, implementation, and recommendation of capacity and resource management approaches in compute and storage domains
• Oversight and guidance of deployment, patching, monitoring, and platform security via frameworks such as Puppet, Ansible, and others
• Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs
• Where appropriate, supervision or shared supervision of other staff, interns and/or students in relevant projects
• Use safe manual handling techniques, practice safe work habits in line with QCIF Policies
• Wear protective clothing provided where necessary and take a consultative role in assisting and maintaining a clean, tidy work area and a healthy and safe working environment

• Ensure all equipment is kept in good working order and used only for the purpose for which it was intended

About you 

Essential criteria 

• An Honours or Masters degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related discipline with at least 7 years of experience, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related discipline with at least 10 years of subsequent relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
• An expert level practical and functional understanding of systems administration principles ranging from advanced Windows and Linux administration through to more advanced topics such as security hardening and optimisation of the operating system environmental variables
• Experience working with Agile project management methods
• Practical skills in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, shell, PowerShell, etc.)
• Advanced knowledge/experience with DevOps
• Knowledge of DevSecOps
• Knowledge/experience of deployment of relational/NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, MongoDB)
• Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Dart, Java, C++, etc)
• An advanced understanding of networking technologies and protocols (ethernet)TCP stack, firewall)
• High level of creative thinking capability and excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clients by telephone, email, and in person

The Principal Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, build and management of cloud infrastructure platforms for QUT. This role will develop the frameworks, guardrails, and automated remediation of non-compliant workloads, and to assist with education on cloud best-practice design. The position will lead the development of self-service cloud infrastructure and the democratisation of cloud infrastructure consumption, within the well-defined guardrails, leveraging consistent and well-orchestrated deployment patterns. The bdna Products team of technical analysts, software developers, engineers, testers and forensic subject matter experts work closely with law enforcement and forensic laboratories to improve forensic service delivery through specialist products and contributes to the continuous improvement of service delivery and customer satisfaction.

This role is responsible for providing high-quality technical support to internal and external stakeholders, including incident, problem, and service request management in alignment with agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

This role includes participation in an after-hours on-call support roster to ensure 24/7 service availability for bdna’s customers.

What’ll you do

• Provide responsive and effective technical support via telephone, email, and remote access tools in accordance with customer SLAs
• Conduct software maintenance, updates, and upgrades for bdna’s client base
• Proactively foster and maintain positive relationships with clients through professional and customer-focused communication
• Monitor application and infrastructure alerts to identify and address potential incidents before they impact service
• Apply ITIL-aligned incident management practices to resolve customer issues in a timely and efficient manner
• Support the implementation of change management and coordinate with clients during planned maintenance activities
• Analyse recurring issues and recommend preventative measures to reduce incident volume
• Collaborate with internal teams—including developers, QA, infrastructure, UX, and business analysts—to investigate and resolve complex technical issues
• Troubleshoot infrastructure and application faults, identify bugs, and perform data analysis tasks as required
• Document support activities, decisions, and resolutions within service management tools such as ServiceNow
• Operate within bdna’s Continuous Integration (CI) environment and associated tools
• Attend client sites as required, representing bdna in a professional and consultative manner
• Manage competing priorities to ensure timely resolution of all support tickets and tasks
• Demonstrate autonomy, initiative, and accountability in the delivery of support services
• Contribute to a positive and inclusive team culture, showing respect for diverse backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives
• Actively support bdna’s commitment to quality, innovation, and continuous improvement

What you’ve got

• Minimum three (3) years of demonstrated experience in a technical support or application support role
• Proficient in SQL, including advanced querying, optimisation, and database management
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure services and troubleshooting methodologies
• Experience with ticketing systems such as Jira Service Management or ServiceNow
• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues in Windows environments, web applications, and APIs
• Understanding of cloud-based application and database technologies
• Experience supporting bespoke or custom-developed software systems is highly regarded
• Familiarity with software development processes or code is advantageous
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to service delivery
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical information for non-technical users
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively under pressure
• Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team

Qualifications/Certifications

• A degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field or equivalent experience
• Microsoft Certified Azure Data Fundamentals (preferred)
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (preferred)

We are seeking a Principal Consultant, Change Management to join Digital Business Solutions, Administrative Division.

The Principal Consultant, Change Management will play a pivotal role in leading and governing change initiatives across various Digital Transformation programs at QUT. The primary responsibility of the Principal Consultant, Change Management will be to establish and lead the Change Centre of Excellence, ensuring a consistent and effective approach to change management practices across QUT’s digital portfolios. Additionally, the role will work with project change managers to provide governance ensuring that all change activities align with organisational objectives and standards. In this dynamic role you may also be required to provide support for change activities related to the delivery of some initiatives where appropriate.
