The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) provides reliable, regular and relevant information and statistics on Australia’s health and welfare.
We are committed to providing high quality, national data and analysis across the health, housing and community services sectors. This covers a wide range of areas, from health and welfare expenditure, hospitals, disease and injury, disability and mental health, to ageing, disadvantaged and vulnerable populations, homelessness, and Indigenous health and welfare.
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit is leading the development of national sexual and reproductive health monitoring data, to inform policy and improve healthcare outcomes. This includes:
- engaging with stakeholders to develop a reporting framework for annual reporting,
- developing a strategy to address data gaps,
- progressing data development for new or existing data sources and
- commencing regular reporting under the framework.
Taking a life course approach and attention to key areas such menstruation and puberty disorders, contraception, termination of pregnancy, miscarriage, and perimenopause and menopause are key components of this work.
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit is within the Priority Populations & Capability Group at the institute, which plays a key national role in monitoring the pregnancy and birth experiences and outcomes of mothers and babies in Australia, sexual and reproductive health, as well as monitoring veterans' health and welfare. The Group also supports the Institute to employ advanced analytical techniques and tools, including machine learning and artificial intelligence.
The Sexual and Reproductive Health Unit is looking for a Research and Data Impact Officer who can work with the team to conduct analysis and develop online data and information products tailored to meet a variety of stakeholder needs from the government and non-government sectors.
As the APS5 Research and Data Impact Officer, you will work under general direction with the Project Manager and Unit Head to:
- Assist in the development of a suite of online data and information products related to sexual and reproductive health, including planning of website architecture and products that ensure useability and impact, including social media outputs
- Undertake research tasks including literature reviews and canvassing of online materials and information delivery models
- Support stakeholder engagement processes including responding to trends and priorities for presenting data from stakeholder engagement and user analytics
- Work collaboratively with the team leader, Unit Head and other officers within the Unit
- Draft, review, and provide advice on, relevant products, briefings agenda papers, business cases.
