We have a genuinely friendly and supportive culture where everyone has a voice and opportunity to help shape our future and to fulfil our purpose.

The role

As Front-End Engineer you will lead the design and development of user-facing components and scalable design systems that deliver a consistent, accessible, and modern user experience across Climate Friendly’s digital platforms.

This role plays a critical part in shaping how users interact with Climate Friendly’s technology by ensuring performance, accessibility, and reliability are embedded into every product. Working closely with product managers, designers, and developers, the role translates UX requirements into high-quality technical solutions, mentors mid-level engineers, and contributes to front-end architecture, design standards, and agile delivery practices.

By combining technical expertise with a user-centric approach, the Front-End Engineer helps enable Climate Friendly’s mission through intuitive and impactful digital tools.

The role can be based anywhere in Australia, with flexibility to work fully remotely or in a hybrid capacity from home and one of our office locations.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Building, testing, and maintaining reusable UI components and scalable design systems to ensure consistent look, feel, and functionality across applications.
  • Working closely with product managers and backend developers to ensure smooth integration of APIs, data flows, and user interface elements.
  • Translating user interface and user experience requirements into technical solutions by coding features, layouts, and interactions using React and related front-end frameworks.
  • Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, following established coding standards and best practices.
  • Ensuring applications are responsive, accessible, and performant across devices and browsers by running audits, debugging issues, and applying optimisations.
  • Providing mentorship and technical guidance to mid-level engineers by pairing on tasks, reviewing their code, and helping them troubleshoot challenges.
  • Reviewing code written by other developers, giving constructive feedback, and ensuring quality and consistency across the codebase.
  • Participating in regular team meetings and planning sessions, providing technical input and updates on progress, risks, or blockers.
  • Monitoring and resolving front-end bugs, issues, and technical debt, ensuring timely fixes and stable releases.
  • Documenting components, standards, and front-end guidelines for internal use to support knowledge sharing and long-term scalability.
  • Staying up to date with emerging front-end technologies, frameworks, and accessibility standards, and proposing improvements for adoption where valuable.
  • Supporting the rollout of new systems, features, and updates, including contributing to release notes, training material, or technical demos where required.

This position is being offered as a 12-month fixed term contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension or permanency subject to business needs and performance.
