Job Description
Your future is Energy Queensland:
Energy Queensland (EQL), and our operational brands: Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Retail and Yurika, are at the frontline of progress. As Australia’s largest government-owned electricity organisation, we serve people and communities across the state and beyond. Here, you’ll help us deliver reliable energy solutions for our two million customers.
Join us as a Data Management Lead and amplify your impact. Our Data Enablement team, in partnership with our wider Digital Division, is currently on a mission to unlock the power of data across EQL – one of our greatest transformations to date – and this role is your chance to be at the heart of it.
This is a permanent opportunity based at our Newstead Office in Brisbane.
Your opportunity:
As the Data Management Lead, you drive the capability and delivery of enterprise data management across our diverse business. You lead data literacy and maturity-building initiatives and empower teams to strengthen their data confidence and improve how their data is captured, managed, and used to generate insights and make decisions.
This is considered a technical leadership role, but it’s just as much, if not more, about collaboration and influence. You lead a small but mighty team of seven, including Data Management Specialists and Senior Business Support Analysts. Your team are the technical experts, and you’re the one who brings their strengths together – ensuring success across enterprise-wide initiatives and keeping everyone aligned on delivering meaningful outcomes. You’re focused on the “why” behind the work and how our data management strategies can be better, smarter, and more impactful.
You work closely with senior leaders, subject matter experts, and key digital teams (including other Data Leads, Cyber, and Architecture) to solve business problems, enhance data maturity, and embed strong governance practices. You’re proactive in engaging stakeholders and getting ahead of data management issues – providing solutions, obtaining buy-in on new approaches, and ensuring teams are equipped with the right tools, methods, and mindset to make the most of their data.
Whether it’s sprint planning, clearing strategy roadblocks for your team, facilitating workshops, presenting on new solutions, or designing work packages or scalable frameworks – you’re as much on the tools as you are leading, coaching, and mentoring your team to success.
As the Lead, ultimately, you’re the one who connects strategic intent with operational delivery. You work alongside the Data Enablement Manager and General Manager Enterprise Data – the ones who set the strategy – and work with your team to shape the delivery approach, solve the right problems, and bring the strategy to life.
Your remuneration starts from $184k per annum + 14.75% super for a 9-day fortnight, and from $208k per annum + 14.75% super for a 10-day fortnight.

What you’ll bring:
This is a highly influential role in our business, so we’re looking for someone who brings a strong mix of enterprise data leadership, stakeholder influence, and strategic execution. Specifically, we need you to have:
- Proven leadership experience – you’re a seasoned leader who’s led high-performing, engaged teams. You know how to empower technical experts and help them grow in their area of expertise.
- A collaborative and people-focused leadership style – you’re a natural, confident leader with strong emotional intelligence, resilience, and the ability to lead through change.
- A background in enterprise data management – you have hands-on experience in areas such as data governance, quality, and lifecycle management. You may come from a data consultancy or large enterprise – either way, you understand how data works at scale and how to drive strategic impact in this space.
- A solid understanding of data management practices and tools – including key areas like data governance, quality, and cataloguing. Experience with tools such as Alation, Collibra, or Informatica is ideal, as well as expertise in Databricks, SAP S/4HANA, or SAP Analytics Cloud.
- Demonstrated ability to work at a strategic, influential level – you can shape direction, build capability, align delivery to broader business strategy, and drive uptake of frameworks, initiatives, and long-term change across the business.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills – particularly at senior and executive leadership levels. You’re confident engaging with all levels of the business and building trust through influence, clear communication, and a consultative mindset.
What matters most? For us, it’s our values: We’re Safe – We Belong – We Grow – We Deliver. If you’re going to be a part of our team, these should matter to you, too.
